Born in 1530 as Grainne Ni Mhaille, Grainne was queen of Umaill (Connaght) and a fearsome trader and pirate. She was one of the last Irish leaders to defend against English rule in Ireland and has been described as a fearless femonist icon who grabbed life who both hands right up to her death.
